Look at that face. That’s the face of a man who would co-create a comic called Sex Criminals, bring beefcake Peter Quill aka Star-Lord back to Earth, and dress as Spider-Man in public until Marvel gave him a job writing Spider-Man for the public.

That’s Chip Zdarsky. And he’s a last-minute addition to SPLIT: true stories about the end of marriage and what happens next.

Early on in the making of this book, I lost an author due to scheduling conflicts. After Chip told me he was divorced, and would be willing (and had some time) to write an essay for this book, I commissioned him to do just that. Writing non-fiction like this is not something Chip usually does, but while reading his essay—”Shrek (2001) ★★☆☆☆”—you’d never know it. I don’t want to give any more away, but I don’t think it’s going to be what you expect, and I know you’re going to like it.

Chip joins fourteen other emerging and established writers; the one thing all contributors have in common is they’ve all lived through divorce and have offered for this collection moving, challenging, sad, funny, heartbreaking, self-aware reflections of that time in their lives. The writers are from diverse backgrounds and provide essays that are true stories of grief, kink, compromise, of artistic differences, of parenting, queerness, mental health, of academic dissonance, and addiction.

SPLIT is out March 31, 2017!!
